A gentle stream in blue tones

“Forest Stream” is a sculptural wood wall artwork built from layered Kiaat with a few Blackwood accents - each slat cut to different lengths and depths for relief. Fine grooves are cut across the grain to add texture and catch the light. Bands of chalk-paint shades of blue flow through the composition like water, while a clear-wax centre and darker wax toward the edges create a calm gradient from cool to warm. Mounted on a matt-black birch plywood backer, this one-of-a-kind piece is ready to hang and brings a restful, contemporary focus to a room.

Is it heavy? Can I hang it alone?
At ~11,5 kg most people can hang it solo; two people will make it easier.
How does it mount?
A built-in French cleat is fitted to the back. Screw the matching strip to your wall, then drop the piece onto it-secure and level.
Will the colours look exactly the same in person?
Photos are taken in natural light; expect subtle, beautiful variation-part of the charm of handcrafted wood.
Does it help with echo?
Not a technical diffuser, but the layered relief and timber surface can gently soften reflections in a lively room.
Can you customise the size or colours?
Yes-send a wall width or colour palette, and I’ll quote a made-to-order version.
What’s the lead time for a custom piece?
Typically 2–4 weeks depending on size and my studio schedule.
Is the finish durable?
Yes-it is sealed with a clear and dark coat of wax.

Behind the Scenes

This piece grew from the feel of water moving quietly through trees. I cut each slat to mixed heights, scored cross-grooves for texture, then layered cool blues over warm Kiaat grain-finishing with clear wax through the middle and dark wax at the edges to echo a stream brightening at its centre and darkening near the banks.
