A Walk Through the Forest – Sculptural Wooden Wall Panel

The forest, reimagined in hardwood and form

This sculptural wall artwork captures the quiet complexity of a forest - where no two trunks are alike, but together they create harmony in texture, form, and tone.

Made from a blend of exotic hardwood slats, each piece is cut to varying lengths and depths, then arranged to create a sense of rhythm and movement across the surface. Shallow grooves are cut across each slat to bring out the natural grain, while the colour transitions from pale oak to deep walnut evoke light shifting through the trees.

Framed by negative space, the composition is mounted on a black-painted birch plywood backer, sealed for protection, and built to last. Each artwork comes with hanging hardware attached and is signed and numbered on the back as part of a limited series.

Materials

Hardwood slats include White Oak, Red Oak, Rosewood, Walnut, Kiaat, Rhodesian Teak, Beech, European Ash and more - carefully selected for colour, grain, and natural variation.

Each slat is glued onto a birch plywood backer painted in matt black chalk paint and sealed with a water-based clear coat. Slats are sealed with natural wax or wood oil depending on tone and finish.

• Keep out of direct sunlight to preserve finish and colour tone.

Not a technical diffuser, but the irregular depth and angled slats help soften echo and break up reflected sound.

Can it hang vertically or horizontally?
Yes - default is horizontal. Let me know your preference, and I’ll fit the hanging hardware accordingly.

Is it signed?
Yes - each piece is signed and numbered on the back as part of a limited series.

Can I commission a different size?

Each slat is cut, grooved, sanded, arranged, glued, and sealed in my Johannesburg studio using off-cuts and reclaimed hardwood where possible.
